As Chief Investment Officer, Tom Hardin makes all the final decisions on all investment and portfolio management decisions for Canterbury Investment Management. Tom has more than 30 years experience in the investment management industry and has broad breadth of knowledge. He is known for as an innovator, educator and been revolutionary in the advancements in portfolio and risk management.


Tom has what may be the most diverse experience in the financial management industry today. He earned his bachelor's degree, as business major, from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York, Tom received his certification in portfolio management from the renowned University of Chicago Graduate School of Business. In addition, he has earned the following designations:

  • Certified Financial Planner® (CFP®), 1982
  • Certified Portfolio Manager through Hutton Portfolio Management, 1987
  • Senior Portfolio Management Director, 1993
  • Senior Investment Management Consultant, 1994
  • Chartered Market Technician (CMT), 1997
  • Chartered Retirement Planning Consultant (CRPC), 2002
  • Certified Client-Centered Coach through American Business Visions, 2002

Tom began his investment career in 1977 as a Registered Representative of a New York Stock Exchange firm. From 1982 through 1986, he served as Regional Director of EF Hutton's Personal Financial Management Department, where he directed the financial and investment planning efforts of 32 branch offices. During that time, he worked with some of the firm's highest income and net worth clients.

 

Before founding Canterbury, Tom served as Senior Vice President and Senior Portfolio Management Director for the Portfolio Management Group.The Portfolio Management Group was one of the investment management divisions of Smith Barney and Citigroup and provided customized investment management for high net worth clients.
